Addressing Member Concerns on the processing fees related to payments of Annual Subscription Fees and Contributions to the Compensation Fund

Dear Member,

Further to the concerns expressed by members in relation to the processing fees charged in respect of payments of practising fees and contributions to the Compensation Fund made via the CourtPay system and queries as to whether such payments may still be made at the Registry and Sub-Registries, we advise that cheque payments will be accepted at the Registry and Sub-Registries.

For clarity, please be advised that the Law Association has no control over the processing fees imposed by the CourtPay system and that the Law Association is not receiving any such processing fees.

The CourtPay system and its process flows are the subject of dialogue between the Registrar and the Law Association; as previously reported to the Membership. We have participated in meetings and we have issued written requests for a further meeting with the Registrar. There have also been several verbal follow-ups culminating in a letter dated 30 September 2020 issued by the Treasurer to the Registrar. We intend to request the further meeting with the Registrar to continue the discussion of our concerns as to the workings of the CourtPay system including the concerns of members as relayed to us.

In the interim, members are able to make payments in person at the Registry and Sub-Registries.

Yours faithfully,

Anil V. Maraj
Treasurer
Law Association of Trinidad and Tobago
