Integrity Commission Chairman must address allegations

The Law Association of Trinidad and Tobago (LATT) notes with concern the comments of Mr. Justice Ventour (retired) which details the reasons for his resignation as Deputy Chairman of the Integrity Commission.

The Integrity Commission is an independent constitutional body appointed by His Excellency the President of Trinidad and Tobago. It is charged with the responsibility of regulating the conduct of persons exercising public functions and preserving and promoting the integrity of public officials and institutions.

The reasons Justice Ventour has advanced as giving rise to his immediate resignation which emanate from his interview with the media on the 21st May 2015 cause grave concern. These statements include inter alia

“When I took my oath, the last thing that I would have thought was that I would be part of any statement that would mislead the public of Trinidad and Tobago. I want no part of that…”

“What was said in that letter I knew it was incorrect not true and therefore I indicated that I was not going to be part of this.”

The LATT as a matter of urgent public importance calls upon the Chairman of the Integrity Commission to forthwith address these very serious allegations which have prompted the resignation of the Deputy Chairman.

The LATT also calls upon His Excellency, the President to immediately act as deemed necessary in the public interest.
