What are the Requirements for admission to practise law?

You must satisfy one of the follow requirements:

  1. Law degree from University of the West Indies (LLB) plus, Legal Education Certificate obtained after a two-year course at the Hugh Wooding Law School. Such persons are automatically accepted for admission to practise.
  2. Law degree from other recognised universities (including an external University of London degree) plus Legal Education Certificate (LEC) obtained after a two-year course at the Hugh Wooding Law School. Persons compete by examination for limited available places.
  3. Law degree from a recognised university (including an external University of London degree) plus Legal Practising Certificate (LPC)/Bar Professional Training Course (BPTC)/ Bar Vocational Course (BVC) and completion of a six months attachment.
  4. Overseas qualification as a practitioner (barrister, solicitor, attorney, etc.) plus Legal Education Certificate (LEC) obtained after a six-month course at the Hugh Wooding Law School.
