A lawyer does not have or has refused to show me their practising certificate. What should I do?

You can first verify the lawyer has been issued a practising certificate by contacting the Registrar at the Supreme Court at 868-62-TTLAW / 868-628-8529. If they have not been issued a practising certificate you may inform the Registrar or file a complaint with the Disciplinary Committee and refuse to have that lawyer continue to represent you. All lawyers practising in Trinidad and Tobago must have a valid practising certificate for the current law term. It is an offence to practise without a current valid practising certificate.
