Dear Members:

Those present at the AGM held on the 17^th March 2017 would recall that when the Financial Statements for the year ended 31^st January, 2017 was presented by the Association’s auditors, the Treasurer-elect had raised certain issues with the presentation of the Report, in particular:

1. That the report was unsigned and unidentifiable as having been issued by the appointed auditor;
2. That the assets of the Compensation Fund were not properly distinguished from the assets of the Law Association as required under the Legal Profession Act.

Although the Financial Report was approved by the Membership, the Executive of the 30^th Council together with the then-elected members of Executive of the 31^st Council determined to discuss further with the Auditors the issues which had been raised.

Following from those discussions, the 31^st Council took a decision to propose the removal of the auditors.

Rule 21(2) of the Council of the Law Association Rules provides that the Auditor shall be appointed at each Annual General Meeting and as such the 31^st Council has convened a Special General Meeting for the purpose of considering and approving the removal of the current auditors and the appointment of new auditors for the Law Association.

We urge you to treat this matter as a priority and to attend the SGM on WEDNESDAY 8 NOVEMBER, 2017 at the CONVOCATION HALL, HALL OF JUSTICE, KNOX ST, POS.
