I am writing to remind you of the Special General Meeting of the Law Association to be convened this Friday 27th September 2019 at 3:00 p.m. at the following venues:
- the Auditorium of the Government Plaza, Port-of-Spain;
- the Rooftop Floor, Dipnarine Rampersad & Company, 8–10 Gordon Street, San Fernando; and
- the Ground Floor, Triangle Building, Carrington Street, Scarborough, Tobago.
The sole item on the agenda is whether the LATT should launch judicial review proceedings to challenge the decision of the Honourable Prime Minister not to commence impeachment proceedings against the Honourable Chief Justice. The SGM Notice is attached for your ease of reference. Also included in the link below is the advice from Senior Counsel on the possible grounds for judicial review:
I need say very little to impress upon you the importance of this decision, one way or the other. Apart from the significant commitment in human and financial resources which this would entail, important rule of law and accountability issues are at stake. It is accordingly crucial that there is a large turnout of the membership so that your Council may be confident that the voice of the entire membership is heard, one way or the other.
I therefore issue this personal plea to all of you to turn out in your numbers.
