Special General Meeting – Thursday 1 June, 2017

Dear Members:

On behalf of the President and Council of the Law Association, please be advised that that the Council of the Law Association of Trinidad & Tobago hereby calls a SPECIAL GENERAL MEETING of the Law Association of Trinidad & Tobago pursuant to Section 23, First Schedule of the Legal Profession Act to take place on THURSDAY 1 JUNE, 2017 at 3 pm in the Hall of Justice, Convocation Hall, Knox Street, Port of Spain, in response to a written Requisition signed by 62 members of the Law Association and served on the Secretariat of the Law Association on Friday 5 May, 2017.

The objects of the meeting as set out in the Requisition are as follows:

  1. To resolve that voting at this Special General Meeting on any of the resolutions be by secret ballot;
  2. To resolve that having regard to the importance and public interest in the matters to be debated members of the media be allowed to observe and report on the meeting;
  3. To resolve that the LATT do express its loss of confidence in the Honourable Chief Justice Ivor Archie as Chief Justice of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago;
  4. To resolve that the LATT do express its loss of confidence in the Honourable Chief Justice Ivor Archie as Chairman of the Judicial and Legal Services Commission (JLSC);
  5. To resolve that LATT do express its loss of confidence in Justice Roger Hamel-Smith, Ms. Marjori Thorpe and Justice Humphrey Stollmeyer as members of the JLSC;
  6. To resolve that LATT do call upon the Chief Justice Ivor Archie to resign forthwith as Chief Justice of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago;
  7. To resolve that LATT do call upon Justice Roger Hamel-Smith, Ms. Marjori Thorpe and Justice Humphrey Stollmeyer to resign as members of the JLSC.

Please note that the Requisition may be inspected by any member at the Law Association’s Main Office, 2nd Floor, 95-97 Frederick Street, Port of Spain between the hours of 9.00 am and 4.00 pm, Monday to Friday, and is also accessible in the members’ section of the Association’s website. This document, as well as a copy of the advertisement for the Special General Meeting which appeared in the Trinidad Guardian today, Tuesday 16 May, 2017.

Please also note that ONLY those Practitioner members who hold a valid practicing certificate for the Law Term 2016-2017 or who produce a receipt for the 2016-2017 Law Term with a 2015-2016 practicing certificate can attend and vote at the meeting.
